Drafting Rules:

Thank you to Kierre1981 for this.

You can draft these in any particular order.

The draft will be 12 Rounds long and with the following restrictions.

(1) - QB - you have to draft a starter (QB1)
(2) - RB - any starting RB (RB1 or RB2)
(3) - RB - any starting RB (RB1 or RB2)
(4) - WR - any starting WR (WR1 or WR2)
(5) - WR - any starting WR (WR1 or WR2)
(6) - TE - you have to draft a starter (TE1)
(7) - OL, Backups, K, P - all come bundled as one pick
(8) - DL - choose one team's DL-- DEs can be moved around after the draft
(9) – LB- LB set (1,3) –Draft a ROLB and LILB tandem (Ex: LT & Gary Reasons)
(10) –LB- LB set (2,4) – Draft a LOLB and RILB tandem (Ex: Simon Fletcher & Michael Brooks)
(11) - CB - choose one team's CBs-- CBs can switch sides after the draft
(12) - S - choose one team's Safeties—Safeties can flip sides after the draft

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Draft Time & Date:

TBD

Draft Order:

There will be a live webcast of the lottery do determine 1st round picks. This rest of the slection will be done via snake draft (last pick in round 1 gets 1st pick in round 2).

Pre-Draft Rules:

All owners must Pre-rank their players prior to the draft (the more detail the better, but no one is expected to rank EVERY player).

There will be no trading of Draft Picks and each Owner must make their selection within a their alloted time (TBD). If you run past your allotment, a pick will be made off of your pre-rankings (highest rated player left, unless you have all players filled in that position. In that case we use highest rated player in 1st available roster vacancy).

Notes :

I understand that there have been other ideas but this will keep the draft short while allowing enough flexibility for owners to set their teams up. Also this makes it easier and less time consuming to generate a ROM

Please no complaining about not being able to draft Mel Gray, Johnny Bailey, Steve Young, Tim Brown..etc. If you want them then you have to take everything that comes with them.

Lastly, just like any other "fantasy" draft" you will have to do some of your own research. You will have to come up with your own LB set rankings and there are a number of sources that rank the other players for you. It would also be a smart idea to sift through the Original ROM yourself.

I did post some helpful things to give some of the newer players a little help.

i wasn't complaining about not being able to not pick tim brown, i was just saying that it might get a little confusing between who is a starter and who is a backup. for some of us this is our first league and first draft. all i was saying is there needs to be a master list of all available picks. the backups shouldn't even be listed on the master list because their not able to be drafted. i am starting to get a little confused who is actually running this league.

I removed the backups from the master lists.

Thank you kierre for helping alleviate a lot of confusion.

To further help out everyone I will post a master list of all of the starting players for all positions. This will help everyone more easily figure out what they want to go for with the draft.

Send me a PM of your list. As of now there is no deadline for that. I am currently posting the players.

Yo I am putting massive amounts of good information up over the next day. If you look at the WR page you will see.. It's a lotta work, but it will definitely help out.

2 questions....

First.... Do I (for example) have to draft a WR at 4th round?? Could I not draft during 2nd round?? Or are we restricted to the above example.

Second....is that the for sure way we are drafting LBs? (LT+Reasons)....not(LT+Banks) ?? I just need to know for sure before I make my lists.

You can draft any of the positions in any round you want. Also, we are drafting LB Sets 1/3 and 2/4...so you get LT and Reasons..NOT LT and Banks.

^^ this is approved, and is how the drafting will be going down.

since there is only 16 teams are we doing ghost picks?
otherwise you will end up with teams full of studs at every position. this may sound cool but ive been in leauges like this and know one liked it. makes for horriabble game play.

What are these ghost picks? I don't see anything wrong with everyone having a good team. People can draft their team to their liking, and some teams will be better at defense than offense.. and some better at running then passing.

since there are 28 teams in tecmo and only 16 teams in our league all the teams will be completly loaded not just good but great. gosht picks are 1-16 make there picks then there would be 12 picks taking the top rated players before you start the second round. every one end up with a good team. but not a insane team. for the most part this is what most leagues of this size do. i do not want to come off as a jerk but if there are stacked teams i will sit this one out. ive played in serveral leagues like that and didnt injoy them. no hard feeling i wish you guys the best of luck.

for example one year in intl i had

qb eagles
r craig
e byner
s sharpe
a toon
r sanders

on def i was loaded as well at the end of that season every one in league decided that was the dumbest thing every so we did ghost picks ever since.

You know this was my fear as well - that teams would just be way too stacked, making gameplay terrible, and nothing like the original.

I think ghost picks is a great idea!! How would we be picking for the 12 ghost teams?

i dont think its lame....it would be less stacked than Probowl teams....and thats still fun too IMO.

Many more changes, and we will never get this thing rolling. I'm ready to get this draft going.

It will be a normal draft the way I said it. The teams won't be stacked.. and each team will have an equal chance to pick up good players. This is how it goes.

Well, we would need 4 owners still then cause ryan33fulcher says he is out if we don't do ghost picks. I completely agree w/him. 840 players spread out through 16 teams is going to be too much talent compared to 840 guys, divided amongst 28 teams.

auntsam, i am in regardless, but I just really think this would be a real wise thing for this league to do.

Or perhaps you could use the random number generator to remove 12 of the teams? That way, even though we're using the original rosters, each year's draft will be different because of the randomness of removing teams?

Ryanfulcher raised an interesting point but honestly do your own draft and tell me how stacked you team turns out.

And the term "stacked" is all relative. I play in a 10 team league and check out this roster:

QB Bills
Neal Anderson
Keith Byars
Henry Ellard
Shawn Collins
Jay Novacek
Daniel Stubbs
Kevin Greene
Carl Banks
Carl Lee
Albert Lewis

This guy has been in the league for 9 yrs and he is one of the worst teams, after bragging about his team being stacked.. Judging by Ryan's team they obviously didn't have our same draft setup and thus things will be different. Some people will be stronger than others at certain positions but by no means will every team be stacked. Just look at the QB position. There are only about 8 Elite QBs.

I'm in favor of no ghost picks!

K:

I don't think I quite understand. So the roster you posted was Ryan's team? What do some of the other teams look like? Honestly, his offense is killer. His defense isn't that great but does have Greene. If he isn't doing well, then I have to assume that the other teams in the league are as good or better than this. I think we should vote on reducing the number of players available for the draft.

i vote for no ghost picks. their are not that many great qb, and great rb. we have to pick the defense by pairs so that will limit teams for being totally stacked. lets just finally get this thing started and see how the draft goes. after the first season we can change some things around if need be. if we dont get the first season going there wont be a second season.
